The recent body of work evolved during the years Kinkead lived in New Zealand. The natural scenery of the country had such a significant impact on her creativity that the paintings produced were unlike any of her works from the previous 15 years. The incredible flora of the untamed landscape became a newfound inspiration for painting. Because the artist chooses to interpret nature rather that than mimic it, she flattens forms instead of modeling them. The effect is somewhat graphic and unusual with a bit of tongue-in cheek whimsy. The paintings are controlled and tight yet appear in a state of kinetic motion. Flowers, leaves, berries, twigs and particles of pollen that are blown by the wind transform into abstracted imagery.
