Megan Jenkins is a New York artist who works from a personal concept and chooses whatever media best suits her subject. Recently her ideas have led her to use photography and sculpture, although her work has also manifest itself in drawing, painting, performance and installation.

Born in North Platte, Nebraska in 1979, Megan came to New York from Chesapeake, Virginia in 1997. After studying fine art and liberal arts at the Honors College at Adelphi University, Megan pursued her undergraduate degree in fine art from Pratt Institute.

In the cupcake series, Jenkins investigates desire in surreal little sugar coated packages. She addresses celebration as indulgence of desire. "My cupcake are intimate, covetable objects made of plaster, acrylic, toys, candy and resin. In the photographs I manipulate their symbolism and further isolate the enviroments they create.", notes Jenkins. Each image acknowledges desire as the singular driving force of humanity, shamelessly beautiful in its innocence and obscenity.
